The Nymburk malting plant was started in 1986. It is located in the Polabí lowland, called "The Czech Golden Strip", where besides wheat and sugar beat, good quality barley has been grown for centuries. For the annual malt production of 108 000 t most of the barley is bought from the central part of the Czech Polabí lands.
Modern malting technology reflects the scale and importance of this plant. The entire malting process is computer controlled and set in correspondence with the raw material parameters. Intake of barely is organized by trucks, as well as by railway; capacity of intake routes is 2 x 60 tons per hour. Barley is stored separately in silos depending upon the individual varieties and quality. Storage capacity is 18.000 tons of barley. All 45 silos are equipped with active aeration and temperature monitoring at different silo levels.
The steeping plant consists of 8 preparation bins and 2 steeping sections, each equipped with 8 steeping tanks. Each steeping tank has a capacity of 30 tons, thus 360 tons of barley is processed daily. The equipment of cylindro-conical steeping tanks enables intensive aeration, mixing of barley by compressed air and exhausting of CO2.
Germinating room consists of 8 Saladin boxes, each with 53 m long and 7 m wide. Optimal germinating conditions during warm summer days are supported by cooling system with a capacity of 2.1 MW. Germinating barley as well as the cooling air can be sprayed with water to keep the required moisture content. Germinating process lasts 5 to 6 days.
Nymburk - Kilning takes place on a tandem kiln, i.e. a two 1-floor kiln utilizing maximum heat wastage. This is allowed by the shift of the kilning cycle in such a way that one kiln starts when another kiln is approximately half way through kilning process. The full cycle takes 32 hours where drying of one batch is finished every 16 hours. The kiln is made of reinforced concrete with a diameter of 29 m. Its capacity is designed for 250 t per collection.
A well equipped laboratory verifies the quality of purchased barley including its variety, purity, and provides detailed interoperation control and quality assessment of the finished malt. SEEGER micro malting plant is used for the selection of optimal technology for barley processing.
Malt is dispatched either in bags or in bulk through trucks and wagons. Concrete dispatching silos for truck dispatch (5 x 80 tons) and steel dispatching silos for rail dispatch (20 x 25 ton) enable faster expedition.
Nymburk malt meets the most demanding quality parameters and it is due to this fact that the plant has contracted several long-term lucrative customers. High quality of the production and service has been guaranteed by implementation of the Integrated Management System in spring 2007. The system has been certified according to the international norms ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
With regards to environment protection, complete reconstruction and intensification of company´s effluent treatment plant was finished in 2001. At present, the plant meets the most stringent requirements for waste water. This project was executed with financial aid of The State Environment Fund for The Czech Republic.
