The plant''s history dates back to 1895
Litovel is a small town situated in the Northwest tip of the Haná region. The malting plant was founded here in 1895 and initial production ranged between 1.500 and 2.000 tons of malt per year. After the reconstruction in 1938, the annual capacity increased to 4.500 tons paving the way for the production of coloured and caramel malts. Soon after the reconstruction, production ceased due to war and the plant was reopened in the autumn of 1945. During the period of 1957-1962, the plant underwent further extensive redevelopment that resulted in its present day look. Two new Wanderhaufen lines were installed next to the new floors, the steep house was enlarged, kilns were reconstructed and the storage area was extended with a new barley silo. In the following years malt the roasting plant was modernised, where two new highly efficient PROBAT roasters and two RAVOZ roasers were installed.

Quality raw material
High quality malting barley is bought from local farmers, supplementary demand is covered from the neighbouring regions. Storage silos can keep 2.200 tons of barley, representing approximately 15 percent of the annual need.

Production facilities
The steeping plant equipment includes iron as well as concrete steeping tanks equipped with an automatic CO2 exhaust system. The main advantage of the Litovel plant is its large source of quality water with an all-year-round temperature of 12 degrees Celsius.

Germinating is carried out on classical floors as well as on two Wanderhaufen lines with computer controlled technology. Two 2-floor kilns are indirectly heated by natural gas. The smaller of the two kilns is adjusted to Munich malt production with the possibility of curing at 120 degrees Celsius.

Important producer of special malts
The Litovel malting plant focuses mainly on wheat and barley special malts production. Annually, the plant is capable of producing 10 500 tons of roasted malt and 2 000 tons of special kilned malts. Among the clients of the Litovel plant include domestic and foreign breweries as well as other food industries.

This malting plant obtained certification according to the ISO 9001:2000 standards in March 2004. In spring 2007, current quality system (certified according to ISO 9001) was extended by the Environmental Protection System (certified according to ISO 14001) and Work Safety System (certified in accordance with OHSAS 18001).
